Another action from my Fescennia campaign of 1820: the Battle of Fietan between Nemea and Arcadia. The battle involved four Arcadian columns attacking from different directions against a Nemean defence already in position, covering its camp and baggage train. The battle ended with a repulse of the Arcadian attack.

An aerial view of the battlefield before the troops are positioned.
I usually represent villages with a single building: Fietan is in the top right hand corner of the battlefield.

Nemean infantry supported by a regiment of hussars.

The Nemean right flank. Light infantry can be seen in the woods at the top.

The Nemean centre, infantry and lancers, along with an artillery battery,
with guards and heavy cavalry in reserve.

The Nemean Guard Foot Regiment with the Guard Dragoon Regiment on the right
and a regular heavy dragoon regiment on the left. The King of Nemea himself is at the back,
along with the Guard Foot Artillery Battery.

The Nemean left flank, reserve and militia infantry regiments in the foreground, with a regular infantry regiment, an artillery battery and a company of riflemen on the ridge in the distance.

The Nemean army arrayed for battle.

The Nemean camp, with a regiment of dragoons just across the road.

A regiment of the Arcadian Foreign Legion advancing against the Nemean left flank.

A Nemean battery in action.
The smoke is sheep's wool, plucked from a barbed wire fence.
Its much better than cotton wool as it looks dirty like real gun smoke!

The Nemean right flank opens fire against advancing Arcadian infantry columns.

The Nemean left flank opens fire on the advancing Arcadian Foreign Legion.

The Arcadian mounted grenadier regiment and an infantry regiment charge home
on their opponents, watched by their general and his aide-de-camp.

The Arcadian Foreign Legion charge up the hill. In the background can be seen the second
regiment of the Legion and the Arcadian general in command on this sector.

Arcadian infantry columns and a dragoon regiment pressing forward
against the Nemean right flank.

The Nemea right flank is turned by Arcadian line and grenadier regiments.

The Nemean reserve is set in motion to counter the enemy's breakthrough,
guard infantry and cavalry, with line heavy dragoons, dragoons and lancers.

A view from behind the Nemean reserve, with the Arcadian troops pushing forward
through the gap between the Nemean right flank and centre.

A close up of the Nemean Guard Foot Regiment.
All old Hinchliffe 25mm metal figures.

The Nemean Guard Dragoon Regiment.
Also old Hinchliffe 25mm metal figures.

The King of Nemea with a general of artillery in attendance.
Old Hinchliffe 25mm Wellington and Blucher in a different guise!

The Arcadian Foreign Legion's Lancer Regiment.
It made a gallant if suicidal charge during the battle which saw the unit losing its colonel.

The Arcadian Foreign Legion can be seen in the foreground driving back part of the Nemean left flank. However, the effort proved very costly to the regiments concerned.

The Arcadians have smashed the Nemean right wing and pushed back part of the centre, but the defenders have realigned their front and the Arcadians lack the troops to complete their success.

The view from behind the Arcadian centre. The units are much depleted from the fighting.
In the foreground, Nemean prisoners are being led to the rear.

A selection of images of one of the army's from my Fantasy/Medieval campaign - the Black Legion, which is part of the forces available to the Queen of Lestrigon, who is a powerful sorceress and, at the time of writing, has come to dominate about half of the continent, although not too much by her magical powers as I keep these limited for battles wherever possible. The Black Legion come from Antrustia, a province of Harpagia, which is the core country of the sorceress.

The Black Legion drawn up for battle. The sorceress' colours are black and red, hence the uniforms of the Black Legion. The figures are all old Minifigs or Hinchliffe 25mm metal Romans or Greeks, plus some Hat 25mm hard plastics Arabs.

Medium cavalry, ex-Minifigs Romans from many years ago. The unit at the back has been converted to swords rather than spears, the latter all having broken off in storage or while in the possession of my nephews some years back!

The heavyweight element of the Black Legion, spear-armed hoplites and legionaries.
All ex-Hinchliffe 25mm, the legionaries have been converted to spears as almost all their pila had broken off (nephews and storage as well!).

Cataphracts with lance and bow, all ex-Hinchliffe Roman 25mm.

The guard infantry element of the Black Legion - ex-Hinchliffe Roman 25mm auxiliaries.

Crossbowmen, the figures are Hat 25mm Arabs and some unknown metal 25mm medieval figures sent to me by a friend who had emigrated to the USA many years ago.

A unit of javelinmen, all Hat 25mm Arabs.

A couple of light catapults, 25mm Hinchliffe.
