The next battle in my Napoleonics "Imagi-nation" Campaign - the Battle of Ste. Laie - Nemea vs. Arcadia - a meeting engagement which the Nemeans won, though on casualties rather than meeting the game objectives. Figures mostly Hinchliffe 25mm metal, with some Essex 25mm metal and Perry 28mm plastics and Warlord 25mm plastics; the flags are homemade - these are a bit of a work in progress. I played it solo, restrictions not yet lifted!
The battlefield set out ready; the Nemeans will enter from the left of the picture,
the Arcadians from the right.
Firstly, some pictures of Arcadian units: this is the 1st Cavalry Regiment (Grenadiers-à-Cheval).
Infantry columns - 1st and 3rd Line and 1st Grenadier Regiments.
The Arcadian Foreign Legion - 1st and 2nd Regiments and the Foot Battery.
The full Foreign Legion - the 1st Lancers having arrived on the battlefield.
Foot Battery in action - the Army commander for the day - General of Division Grognon - in the background with his ADCs.
The 2nd Light Infantry Regiment and the 4th Cavalry Regiment (Cuirassiers).
The Foreign Legion's Foot Battery taking up position.
The 2nd Light Infantry deploys for action; the rules require a minimum of half and inch between bases to count in Open Order.
Some scenes of action: first, the 1st Cavalry Regiment takes on the
Nordprovinz Heavy Dragoon Regiment.
The Nemean 3rd Brigade deploying around the farm, line infantry, grenadiers and artillery; the brigade commander up front - General of Infantry Protz; the army commander, Graf von Plünderer watching on towards the rear.
The Arcadian 1st Division deploying to take the farm; its commander,
General of Brigade Canaille is well forward.
On the Arcadian right flank, the Foreign Legion, along with the rest of the 3rd Division, prepares to hold Ste. Laie against the Nemean 4th Brigade.
Fighting near the farm; line against column in good Napoleonic fashion!
The 1st Regiment, Foreign Legion, volleys the approaching Nemeans.
More cavalry action: 4th Cavalry Regiment against the Nordprovinz Reserve Dragoon Regiment, the latter led by and ADC, Captain von Notdurft. He ended up captured by the Arcadians and the Dragoons were routed off the field!
A view down the table from beyond the Arcadian right wing.
More of the fighting at the farm; columns and cavalry charging home on lines.
The fighting at Ste. Laie. Now some Nemean formations: this is No.6 Saatkrähedorf Musketeer Regiment, screened by No.2 Südprovinz Fusilier Regiment.
The Guard Dragoon Regiment.
Not a Nemean unit, but the No.1 Yuggrad Infantry Regiment, on hire from the Duchy of Hesperides. The latter country's ruler is old-fashioned and his men still wear 18th Century style uniforms.
The 3rd and Reserve Brigades piling on to the battlefield around the farm.
No.5 Zaunkönigburg Musketeer Regiment, No.6 Saatkrähedorf Musketeer Regiment and No.2 Südprovinz Fusilier Regiment with their brigade commander, General of Infantry Jasuger.
No.4 Tauchendorf Musketeer Regiment to the right of the picture, with No.2 Reserve Musketeer Regiment on the road in column of route and No.2 Nordprovinz Grenadier Regiment in assault column behind,
The Guard Dragoon Regiment.

A selection of general pictures of the battle follows this one.
The red counters mean that unit is in "Disorder", in this case for having completed a mêlée; green counters are units "Rallying" and black counters are units that have to "Halt" for that turn.
And the remaining pictures are all long range shots of the battle
Hi, enjoyed a nice browse through your blog. I like the mix of larger scale with the 6’ x 4’, which we just don’t see enough of. Also enjoyed the teaser type H&M scenarios. Following.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the blog. I am restricted to 6' x 4' as that is the best size for the dining room table! It also means I am more likely to play a game of manageable size in 25/28mm. I can put up 8' x 4' but that is a bit of a chore, needing extra supports, etc. Hope you manage to try out a Horse & Musket scenario.
