My painting has been a little low key over the last few months, but I have managed to finish a regiment for my Sun King units.
The figures are North Star 1672 Spanish, which I have done as a German regiment in their service in Flanders. Evidence suggests that a lot of the units in the Army of Flanders in the 1670s were wearing grey coats with red cuffs, so I thought I would do this unit in that style. The flag is homemade. Images of contemporary Spanish flags are very hard to find and especially ones for foreign regiments. I did find one for a German cavalry regiment that served in Flanders, so I used that as a basis for a design, then did a colonel's flag (white background) and a unit flag (yellow background). They incorporate the double-headed eagle to show Germanic origin and a shortened form of the Burgundian cross, as well as the heraldic shield of Charles II to show their Spanish paymasters. I think they look okay. Hopefully, I can get them onto the table for a game soon.
Beautiful work, Adrian!
